The classification used here is adapted from those of Wolfgang Huller and Andrea Apra ', which is serving as the basis for data from the Minolta Manual Focus Collector's Society.
As a successor of the 35 C, the 35 D brings some immediately visible changes.
- Rings on both sides of the case allow to fix a strap, for those disliking cases ...
- There is now, on the facade, a recess under the lens, which would be justified by the addition on them of a lever for focusing. In practice, these new lenses can very well be mounted on an older 35, which has no recess. So, aesthetic considerations, or commercial tactics?
- The lever for rewinding (R) migrates under the ring of the image counter.
These three elements, combined with the fact that the facade does not have any engraving, are sufficient to define the 35 D. Fortunately, thereafter the name of the model has been engraved on the front, which does not prevent that there are also variations! A true collector's happiness ...
Here we have the first version of 35 D, called 35 D (type a): the format remains 24 x 33 mm unchanged . A second version, called D (type b), will be modified later on to 24 x 34mm . It should be noted that the collar surrounding the trigger is thin (about 2 mm), a characteristic normally pertaining to the 35 D (type b). But first of all, this part is easy to dismantle and can therefore be inverted; on the other hand, the serial number (10270) is one of the last of type D (type a) and the modification was probably progressive.
